The dirty little secret the left wants everyone to ignore. Planned Parenthood is first and foremost an abortion provider and doesn’t perform mammograms, they only refer women to clinics that actually perform them. In other words, Komen was getting nothing for their money.
(LifeNews) — During a conference call with reporters this afternoon, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure CEO Nancy Brinker and President Elizabeth Thompson revealed the main reason why the Planned Parenthood abortion business lost its funding. It doesn’t do mammograms.
“It was nothing they were doing wrong,” Brinker explained. “We have decided not to fund, wherever possible, pass-through grants. We were giving them money, they were sending women out for mammograms. What we would like to have are clinics where we can directly fund mammograms.”
She added, later in the day on Twitter:, saying the money “will be invested in programs to serve low-income, uninsured and underinsured women.”
“Our Board approved new grants standards to improve direct services to women,” she said. “New grants standards strive for grants that provide direct services and outcomes. We have to put metrics, outcomes and measures to our grants so we can translate the science we’ve funded over 30 yrs. We will continue to provide services to vulnerable populations with care, treatment and screening.”
“We’ve decided not to fund pass-through grants. What we would like is to have clinics where we can directly fund mammograms,” she added.
for me, I applaud susan G. kolman for breaking it off with the death machine. my wife died at 37 of breast cancer in 04, before her passing we had walked together in the race for a cure. they have a perfect right to see that the money they raise goes to life and specifically, and directly to mamograms without a middle man called planned parenthood taking a cut.
in other words, fuck joe biden the blowhard, all the leftard senators screeching at them like evil crows for breaking it of with pp, and especially fuck you to any leftist readers who stumble through here and support pp and cryed foul when the susan g. kolman foundation yanked funding.
let me just say fuck you leftists one more time~~~~~~ rumcrook
* Can you believe all this Komen stuff? Komen wants to stick to just fighting breast cancer and thus doesn’t want to be involved in anything controversial like the abortion debate — which you think both sides would be okay with but the left are freaking out that Komen won’t give money to Planned Parenthood anymore. You have to look at this from the left’s side, though. They been supporting something horrific for so long, and they never want to confront that. Part of what helps them sleep at night is telling themselves that Planned Parenthood is an important women’s health organization and not instead some pro-abortion political organization that makes a lot of money tearing up the unborn. This whole Komen thing is making them confront that fiction, and thus you can understand their reaction. It’s freak out about this or contemplate the horror they’ve been supporting.
“Fighting cancer is important, so it’s best not to try and tie it to anything politically controversial.” -non-existent reasonable liberal
Abortion is one of those things so horrifying you have keep doubling down on it or risk looking back.
I always imagined that Planned Parenthood has a logo like the Ghostbusters, but with a baby in place of the ghost.
Who cares about Komen? Aren’t my tax dollars still going to Planned Parenthood?
Liberals give you no choice but to pay for Planned Parenthood and NPR, but they’re worried about Christians imposing their views on others?
Is there anything liberals scream about that isn’t pure projection?
“We want abortion to be safe, legal, and paid for by people who find it abhorrent.”
Obama: “Jesus told me to pursue these policies. Jesus is the one with the pitchfork, right?”
The Susan G. Komen Foundation, an organization dedicated since 1982 to fighting, and one day curing, breast cancer, decided to extricate itself from the culture wars by discontinuing grants to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest provider of abortions. The grants Komen had been making amounted to $650,000 last year, funding some 19 local Planned Parenthood programs that offered manual breast exams but only referrals for mammograms performed elsewhere.
The reality is that Planned Parenthood—with annual revenues exceeding $1 billion—does little in the way of screening for breast cancer. But the organization is very much in the business of selling abortions—more than 300,000 in 2010, according to Planned Parenthood. At an average cost of $500, according to various sources including Planned Parenthood’s website, that translates to about $164 million of revenue per year.
So how did Planned Parenthood and its loyal allies in politics and the media react to Komen’s efforts to be neutral in the controversy over abortion?
Faced with even the tiniest depletion in the massive river of funds Planned Parenthood receives yearly, the behemoth mobilized its enormous cultural, media, financial and political apparatus to attack the Komen Foundation in the press, on TV and through social media.
The organization’s allies demonized the charity, attempting to depict the nation’s most prominent anti-breast cancer organization as a bedfellow of religious extremists. A Facebook page was set up to “Defund the Komen Foundation.” In short, Planned Parenthood took breast-cancer victims as hostages.
1 BILLION in revenues
does virtually nothing but provide abortions
provides no mamograms themselves
the monies provided by kolmen is like pennies in comparison to thier over all funding
if they really wanted to provide mamograms they could, and with thier revenues they could buy the machines and hire the doctors but they dont, because they need to spend that money greasing politicians and funding thier political agenda. they are in the business of death, and business is good.
What do you expect from an organization that sucks babies out of the womb and throws them in the trash?
Karen Handel, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure official who resigned Tuesday, accused Planned Parenthood of “vicious attacks and coercion” against her.
“Last time I checked, private nonprofit organizations have a right and a responsibility to be able to set the highest standards and criteria on their own without interference, let alone the level of vicious attacks and coercion that has occurred by Planned Parenthood. It’s simply outrageous,” Handel a former Georgia Republican governor candidate who joined the breast cancer organization in 2011 as a vice president of public policy, told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly.
Handel also addressed her role in the controversial and since-rescinded decision by Komen to yank funding from Planned Parenthood, saying that “I clearly acknowledge that I was involved in the process, but to suggest that I had the sole authority is just absurd.”
She said Komen’s questioning of funding Planned Parenthood had existed long before she came to the breast cancer organization.
“I think everyone can agree if you have a grantee where there is this type of controversy surrounding it, Komen was doing its level best to move to neutral ground. And I will say, I was asked to look at options for doing that, some alternatives for doing that. I was asked to do it, I looked at it and I did,” she added.
